Business on Highway 199 is tricky at best. First off Redwood Highway, as it is also called, is a road that goes right smack dab through the middle of nowhere. With a thin band of people hugging the highway and Kalmiopsis wilderness and mountains on all sides the population is thin for years the only business besides liquidating the old growth was selling your business with a high down and high payments then repossessing it about halfway through winter. One year every business, but Western Bank, Hammers Market and the pizza Deli, between Grants and the border changed hands. Things are better now but not much. We have a saying around here that goes; If you want to make a million Dollars on Highway 199 start with two million and it won't be long and you will have one million.
